Nine Indian Seamen Rescued By Pakistan . On Monday, a spokesperson for the Pakistan Navy announced a commendable collaborative effort with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) resulting in the successful rescue of nine Indian seamen stranded at sea. The maritime operation focused on aiding the Ocean Tug SAS-5, flagged in St. Kitts and Nevis, which had experienced a disabling malfunction near the Indian coast, approximately 167 nautical miles southeast of Karachi. The predicament arose from a failure in the tug’s electric generators, leading to a complete lack of electrical supply.

The distress signal from the Ocean Tug SAS-5 reached the Pakistan Navy Joint Maritime Information and Coordination Centre (JMICC) on the morning of February 4. The tug had initiated its journey from the Indian port of Debhol in Maharashtra at the beginning of the month, en route to Sharjah, UAE. In response, the Pakistan Navy, in coordination with HQ PMSA, swiftly launched a comprehensive search and rescue operation to aid the stranded vessel.

The initial phase involved a PN Long Range Maritime Patrol Aircraft tasked with locating the distressed tug at sea. Subsequently, the Pakistan Maritime Security Ship (PMSS) KASHMIR, already engaged in routine maritime security operations in the area, conducted a search and rescue mission upon receiving the distress signal.

Upon reaching the distressed tug, PMSS KASHMIR secured the vessel alongside, dedicating three hours to strenuous repair efforts that successfully rectified the defect. Alongside technical assistance, the crew of the Ocean Tug SAS-5 received essential support, including medical facilities, fresh water, and cooked meals to alleviate their fatigue.

Following this efficient and well-coordinated search and rescue operation, the Ocean Tug SAS-5 was able to resume its voyage towards Sharjah, UAE. The professional and timely response by the Pakistan Navy and PMSA assets received high praise and commendation from the salvaged crew of the tug, underscoring the effectiveness of the collaborative maritime efforts.
