Rising Pro-Palestinian Sentiment in Arab World Following Recent events

Support of Palestine is Rising in Arab World following Hamas Conflict, spanning from mosques to football stadiums and towns. Solidarity for the Palestinian cause has gained remarkable ground, sparked by the Hamas raid on Israel.

From the resilient streets of Ramallah to the bustling neighborhoods of Beirut, Damascus, Baghdad, and Cairo, demonstrations are marked with jubilant distribution of sweets, celebratory dances, and heartfelt prayers in support of the Palestinian resistance against Israel’s occupation.

In the face of adversity, Farah Al Saadi, a 52-year-old coffee vendor from Ramallah, reflects, “My entire life, I have seen Israel kill us, confiscate our lands and arrest our children. I was pleased by what Hamas did.”

Indeed, the Hamas attack is seen as a potent reaction to what many perceive as Israeli crimes in Gaza. Issam Abu Bakr, a Palestinian official in the occupied West Bank, emphasizes that this was an inevitable response to Israel’s abandonment of the political negotiation process.

These sentiments ripple across borders, even where technically at war with Israel. In Lebanon, fireworks light up the sky, and the people rally in support, echoing praise for Palestinian resistance fighters. Solidarity events even find their place at universities, like the American University of Beirut, where Palestinian students express their unwavering support for their brethren.

Even in countries where protests are restricted, like Egypt, football fans turn matches into powerful displays of support.

In the heart of Damascus, the Palestinian flag illuminates the city’s opera house. As Marah Suleiman, a Syrian university employee, eloquently puts it, “The Hamas attack stirred up a feeling within us that had not been moved for many years, and revived the spirit of resistance.”

This solidarity wave, spanning multiple countries and echoing through various segments of society, underscores the unyielding resolve to stand with Palestine. Even in the face of challenging political dynamics, the Arab world exhibits unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, championing their right to resist occupation.
